Numerous residents of Bengaluru took to social media to inform that they heard a loud sound around 12.30 pm on Friday. The incident took many back to the loud sound they heard last year.
According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), there was no signal of any local tremor or earthquake.
In a statement, KSNDMC said, “A report of loud sound by the local community was received from Kengeri, Rajarajeswari Nagar and Vijayanagar, Bengaluru today, during the time duration 12:00 to 12:45 pm. The data was closely analysed from our Seismic Observatory for any possible seismic signals of an earth quake. The earthquake data/record analysed for the above durations shows no signal of local tremor/earthquake.”
Bengaluru, in May 2020, had witnessed a similar incident, wherein residents had heard a loud sound and believed that it was a sonic boom. However, the Defence PRO had later cleared that it was a routine IAF Test Flight involving a supersonic profile that took off from Bengaluru Airport.
However, whether today's loud sound was a sonic boom has not been confirmed yet. Morever, July 2 also marks World UFO Day which has led to curiosity and conspiracy theories.
Here's how Twitterati in Bengaluru reacted to the loud sound. Have a look.
