Lucknow, Jul 2 (UNI) Preparations are afoot to conduct the elections for the district panchayat council's chairman post in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday amid tight security cover.
The elections will be held in 53 districts only as in 22 districts the candidates were elected unopposed on June 29 last.
The ruling BJP has won 21 district panchayat chairman post unopposed while one was won by Samajwadi Party.
In 38 districts, the contest would be direct contest between BJP/ Apna Dal and SP/ RLD candidates.
State Election Commission (SEC) officials here on Friday said that polling will be held at the collectorate in all the 53 districts from 1100 to 1500 hrs and thereafter immediately the counting process will start.
SEC has asked the state government to make elaborate security at the polling place and the voters should be verified properly before allowing them to vote.
The opposition Samajwadi party and RLD have alleged threatening of the voters before the polling along with misuse of official machinery to harass the opposition members. BSP and Congress are not contesting the polls.
No nominations have have been filed against Bharatiya Janata Party candidates in Gautam Budh Nagar, Gorakhpur, Moradabad, Jhansi, Ghaziabad, Chitrakoot, Meerut, Etah, Mau, Balrampur, Bulandshahr, Gonda and Shravasti during the nomination process on June 26.
The BJP candidates elected unopposed are Dr Antul Tewatia from Bulandshahr, Dr Shefali Singh from Moradabad , Gaurav Chaudhary from Meerut, Mamta Tyagi from Ghaziabad, 21-year-old Aarti Tiwari from Balrampur, Amit Chaudhary of BJP in Gautam Budh Nagar, Manoj Rai from Mau, Sadhna Singh from Gorakhpur, Ashok Jatav from Chitrakoot, Pawan Kumar Gautam from Jhansi, Ghanshyam Mishra from Gonda, Dadan Mishra from Shravasti and Kailash Niranjan from Lalitpur.
In Etawah, SP candidate Abhishek Yadav from the family of Mulayam Singh Yadav would be elected unopposed as there is no candidate against him.
However, on the day of withdrawal on June 29, the BJP added four more districts --Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Bahraich and Saharanpur district panchayat chairman posts in their kitty after opponents withdrew their papers.
There are a total of 3,050 district panchayat members in 75 districts of UP .
