Dharavi recorded just a single new case of coronavirus on Friday, a senior Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said.
Dharavi's Covid-19 caseload has increased to 6,899, of which 6,519 patients have already recovered and discharged from hospitals, the official said. He informed that the number of active cases in the densely populated locality has now come down to 21.
Dharavi became a Covid-19 hotspot in the beginning of April during the second wave of the pandemic. It had reported the highest-ever 99 Covid-19 cases on April 8, 2021. As the second wave ebbed in May, cases from the slum town gradually declined and zero cases were recorded in the slum-dominated area on June 14, 15 and 23.
The first coronavirus case in Dharavi was reported on April 1, 2020.
Spread over 2.5 sq km and housing a mix of shanties and micro industrial units, Dharavi is home to almost 6.5 lakh people.
According to the city civic body's updated data, with the addition of 11 new cases in Dadar, the tally of coronavirus infections rose to 9,689. The tally of recovered cases increased to 9,384 in Dadar while active cases in the region stand at 121.
Mahim's infection count stands at 10,007, with the addition of four new Covid-19 cases. The active caseload in the area is 65, while 9,740 people have been discharged so far.
The G/North ward in Mumbai, which includes Dharavi, Dadar and
Mahim, reported 16 new cases of coronavirus in a span of 24 hours. The ward has reported 26,595 cases till date. The recovery count of the ward is 25,643 while 207 patients are currently undergoing treatment for the infection.
