Ludhiana: Residents protest for erratic water supply

LUDHIANA: The residents living in colonies falling under ward number 31 are reeling under acute water shortage and on Thursday they came out on roads to stage protest against civic authorities for their failure in solving the problem.
The residents rued that from last two months they are facing this issue and despite several claims the officials could not solve the matter. The residents threatened to gherao MC zone C office on July 5 in case officials did not act and solve this water crisis.
The residents from localities like Gagan Nagar, Guru Nanak Nagar, Ajit Singh Colony, Maha Singh Nagar, Pakhar colony and other adjoining areas staged a protest on Thursday.
While describing the problem an area resident Rajesh Mishra said, more than 30000 voters are there in ward number 31 but still nobody is concerned for them.
He said earlier officials were saying that they were in process of installing new tube well in area and then water scarcity issue will get resolved after that but even after installation of tube well people are not getting adequate water supply.
He said they are dependent upon either private water tankers or get water from adjoining areas. He warned the officials to be prepared for massive protest outside zone C office in case water scarcity will not be resolved.
Another resident Pritpal Singh said, the weather is hot and in this weather they are not getting even routine water supply for daily chores then what else can be expected from the authorities.
He said people are facing tough time and even area councillor could not solve this issue properly.
Meanwhile the councillor of ward number 31 Sonia Sharma said, “The problem of water scarcity is due to mushrooming of illegal colonies without any check. We had installed one new tube well but area increased and problem remained unsolved.”
She said also due to unscheduled power cuts there is problem of water supply in areas because when there is power cut water supply also gets disturbed.
