Pawar suggests 3-point formula to boost agri output

Kolhapur, Jul 1 (UNI) NCP chief and former agriculture minister Sharad Pawar on Thursday suggested a three-point a formula to boost agricultural production in the country and become self-sufficient.

"If we use three points formula of saving water, soil preservation and growth along with research in new seeds like genetically modified (GM) seeds and fertilizers in agricluture sector, then we will take a leap in agri production and will become self-sufficient," he said in his virtual inaugural address of Dr D Y Patil Agriclutural and Technical University at Talsande village in Hatkanangale tehsil of the district.
Mr Pawar underscored the need of pursuing research in GM seeds to gain self-sufficiency in agri production.
He said that the new D Y Patil Agriculture University should take initiative and carry out research in coordination with 80 institutions and scientists in the country.
Mr Pawar expressed his readiness to help the new D Y Patil Agriculture University in making contact with different foreign universities in agriculture sector.
Former governor of Tripura, Bihar and West Bengal Dr D Y Patil presided over the function in the presence of state Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat, Water Resources Minister Jayant Patil, Agricluture Minister Dadaji Bhuse, Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant, Rural Development Minister Hasan Mushrif, Minister of State for Home (rural) Dr Vishwajeet Kadam, Minister of State for Higher and Technical Education Prajkt Tanpure, District Guardian Minister Satej Patil, who is also vice-president of D Y Patil Group and its president-chancellor Sanjay Patil were present on the occasion.
