Barwani: The tribal predominant Barwani district has created a unique record during the mega-vaccination drive which concluded on Wednesday. The district has created a record by logging wastage of -6 per cent and saved about 4,610 doses.

Hoshangabad, Sehore, Dhar, and Shivpuri also saved more vaccine doses than Indore. District collector Shivraj Singh Verma told that during the 4 sessions of ëVaccination Maha Abhiyaní started on June 21, Barwani had received 7,470 vials to vaccinate 74,700 people. However, using every drop from the vial the health workers vaccinated 79,878 people.

Collector Verma said that ANMs have been trained to efficiently use this extra dose stored in the vial, which is yielding positive results.

On this unique achievement of Barwani district, the minister in-charge of corona, Prem Singh Patel said that Barwani has emerged as the beacon for all who are making efforts to save the lives of people in the country.

2,40,390 vaccinated

District chief medical and health officer Dr Anita Singare said that total of 2,40,390 people have been vaccinated so far during the vaccination campaign started in Barwani district. This includes 1,30,018 males and 1,10,343 females and 29 others.

Negative percentage

Explaining the numbers behind the feat, district Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, ìNegative percentage in vaccine wastage implies that we have used more vaccines than the allotted. It could be possible only by the awareness of the staff. A vial contains 10 doses but many contain 11 doses. Our staff had used every possible dose in the vial.î

Bhopal wasted over 59,336 doses

The state capital Bhopal topped the chart but for wrong reasons as the district wasted the highest number of vaccine doses since June 21 i.e. 59,336. The percentage of vaccine wastage is 18 per cent in the district followed by Damoh, Alirajpur, Ujjain, Agar, and 10 other districts.
