Jharkhand extends lockdown-like restrictions

This is the eighth time that the COVID-related restrictive measures, first imposed in the state on April 22 for a week, were extended. The ongoing curbs were scheduled to be lifted on July 1. "The provisions related to observance of the Health Safety Week in the context of Covid-19 shall stand extended from 6 am on July 1 till further orders," a state government spokesperson said.

COVID-19 vaccine from Germany's CureVac just 48% effective

Germany's CureVac said Wednesday that final trial results showed its coronavirus vaccine had an efficacy rate of just 48 percent, far lower than those developed by mRNA rivals BioNTech/Pfizer and Moderna. The company in part blamed "the unprecedented context of 15 strains circulating" among the trial volunteers, as well as varying responses across age groups.
