Parents Kept Child's Body in Freezer for Almost 'Two Years': Police

Virginia police have arrested the parents of a child whose body was found inside a freezer at their property.

Officers arrived at the Chesterfield home after they received a tip-off in May, according to WTKR.

Once a warrant was granted police launched a search, and when inside they found human remains in a freezer located in the garage.

It was later confirmed the body was of Eliel Adon Weaver. Police determined he was under five when he died and had been in there for up to two years.

Kassceen Weaver, 49, and Dina D. Weaver, 48, both of Chesterfield, were arrested and charged with conspiracy to conceal a body and failing to render aid to a child, according to WTKR.

The outlet added both had been released on bond.

Police will continue their investigation into the cause of Eliel's death.

Chesterfield Police (CP) Major Mike Louth told WTKR: "It's taken a little bit of time to get us to the point right here just for the fact that this isn't your typical type of investigation.

"We have human remains that had been in a freezer for approximately a year and a half to two years. So you know, we needed to have an autopsy done, and they worked really well with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. They brought in some specialists, some forensic anthropologists to help us out on this."

He later added: "This is the first time I've seen anything like this. It's a heartbreaking case to observe. It's a difficult case for anybody to have to work."

In further comments, reported by the Associated Press, Louth said: "This is definitely a very unique death investigation.

"There were so many unknowns, and so many things that had to be done differently than a normal death investigation."

As well as the above charges, a CP spokesperson told WTKR via email others were brought against Kassceen Weaver.

"As a result of further investigation, Kassceen Weaver has also been charged with concealment of a body, as well as the domestic assault and malicious wounding of an adult female who is known to him," they said.

The force later confirmed that Dina Weaver was the victim of the alleged assault and malicious wounding.

DNA testing found that Dina Weaver was Eliel Weaver's biological mother, although there has not yet been any confirmation whether Kassceen Weaver is his biological father.

Police said a second child who was living at the home has been put in foster care.
