Iggy Azalea on Breaking Britney Spears' Father's NDA: 'F*** It'

Iggy Azalea has risked facing the legal wrath of Britney Spears' estranged father, Jamie Spears, by breaking a purported non-disclosure agreement on Wednesday to list a series of alleged events she "personally witnessed."

Documents filed by the Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday showed that Judge Brenda J. Penny had denied the request by Britney Spears' legal team to have her father removed as a conservator of her estate.

"The conservator's request to suspend James P. Spears immediately upon the appointment of Bessemer Trust Company of California as sole conservator of estate is denied without prejudice," the documents state.

In response to the filing by Britney Spears' attorney, Samuel Ingham, the star was also ruled to be "substantially unable to manage his or her financial resources or to resist fraud or undue influence," according to the documents.

Ingham filed the request, which says Spears is "afraid of her father" and threatened to withhold performances until he was removed as her conservator back in November 2020. At that point, her request to remove her father was denied, but she was granted a court-appointed co-conservator.

In the hours that followed the news, rapper Azalea, real name Amethyst Kelly, took to Twitter to share a statement under the #FreeBritney hashtag.

The musician, who collaborated with Britney Spears on the 2015 track "Pretty Girls," wrote about the incidents she allegedly saw during their time together.

She said: "Its basic human decency to at the very least remove a person Britney has identified as abusive from her life. This should be illegal.

"During the time we worked together in 2015, I personally witnessed the same behavior Britney detailed in regards to her father last week and I just want to back her up & tell the world that: She is not exaggerating or lying.

"I saw her restricted from even the most bizarre and trivial things: like how many sodas she was allowed to drink. Why is that even Necessary?"

Azalea then went on to allege that moments before she and Britney Spears were due to perform at the Billboard Music Awards, Jamie Spears requested that the Australian rapper sign a non-disclosure agreement.

She continued: "Her father conveniently waited until literally moments before out BMAs performance when I was backstage in the dressing room & told me if I did not sign an NDA he would not allow me on stage.

If he wants to sue me he can go ahead and try but the NDA is supposed to protect Britney, and it’s only really protecting HIM.

her words alone should be enough to bring about some change in outcome; but that’s not the case today with the judge so Iam here to back her up.

"The way he went about getting me to sign a contract, sounded similar to the tactics Britney spoke about last week in regards to her Las Vegas show.

"Jamie Spears has a habit of making people sign documents while under Duress it seems, and Britney Spears should not be forced to co-exist with that man when she's made it clear it is negatively impacting her mental health. That is not right at all."

Shortly after her statement was shared, Twitter user @bluebrit28 wrote: "Iggy thank u so much for this! But please since u said BEFORE that u couldn't speak up because of that nda and Britney's team could sue u, why did u speak up now? Please EXPLAIN, so we might know it perfectly, so even with nda u still can do this or are u down to the court?"

Responding, Azalea said: "If he wants to sue me he can go ahead and try but the NDA is supposed to protect Britney, and it's only really protecting HIM.

"her words alone should be enough to bring about some change in outcome; but that's not the case today with the judge so Iam here to back her up."

I don’t even have a copy of what I signed to review with a lawyer.
I’m just ass out in the wind, but fuck it!

Criticizing Azalea's previous social media silence on Britney Spears' legal battle, @blackoutalbum tweeted: "See I don't know what you were so afraid of before. We been telling you this."

Azalea wrote in response: "Easy for you to speak on what I should do, when y'all have zero risk factor. Just saying. I don't even have a copy of what I signed to review with a lawyer. I'm just a** out in the wind, but f*** it!"

Earlier this week, an attorney for Britney Spears' estranged father filed court documents saying he is not at fault for any mistreatment Britney has endured under the conservatorship, instead blaming, among others, her court-appointed lawyer.

Azalea is among a large number of celebrities and fans who have expressed shock, after Britney Spears testified last week that, under the conservatorship, she is not allowed to have her contraceptive intrauterine device removed.

"I want to be able to get married and have a baby," she said, addressing the court by phone. "I have an IUD inside of myself so that I don't get pregnant, but [my team doesn't] want me to have any more children."

"They have me going to therapy three times a week and to a psychiatrist," she added. "I truly believe this conservatorship is abusive. I don't feel like I can live a full life."

Responding to her testimony, Jamie Spears' lawyers told the court: "He is sorry to see his daughter suffering and in so much pain. Mr. Spears loves his daughter very much."

Newsweek has contacted representatives for Britney Spears and Jamie Spears for comment.
