THANE: At least seven youngsters have drowned in various lakes and ponds in Thane and
Bhiwandi areas in the last 10 days.
A week ago, two youngsters who had gone for a swim along with friends at a lake in the
Yeoor range of
Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) had drowned.
On the very next day, two more youngsters drowned at the same location.
Following that, the
Forest Department also installed a warning board stating that the area is prohibited and those who will enter illegally, will face imprisonment for three years or a Rs 25,000 fine under the Wildlife Act.

In another incident in Thane on Tuesday (June 28), a sixteen-year-old boy drowned in a water-filled quarry near Thakurpada at
Kalwa (East).

Whereas, on Wednesday, two youths drowned in a pond in the Pogaon area of Bhiwandi.
They too had gone for a swim with their friends.
