The price of cooking gas cylinders was hiked by Rs 25.50 with effect from July 1.
Following the hike, a non-subsidised LPG cylinder (14.2 kg) will cost Rs 834.50 in Delhi and Mumbai. The earlier price was Rs 809 per 14.2 kg.
In Chennai, the price will now be Rs 850.50. It will be Rs 835.50 in Kolkata.
The latest increase took the price of a non-subsidised cylinder up by Rs 140 in the past six months, price data from state-owned oil marketing companies showed.
The hike is applicable across all categories, including subsidised and non-subsidised cylinders.
One rate or market price is applicable on LPG across the country, but the government provides a bit of a subsidy to some customers.
This subsidy, however, has been practically eliminated in metros and big towns in the wake of successive price hikes over the past few years.
For example, customers in Delhi get no subsidy. Since May last year, all Delhi buyers have been paying the market price.
