East Champaran (Bihar): Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) recovered eight Chinese drone cameras from the possession of three persons at the India-Nepal border in East Champaran district, informed Bihar Police on Wednesday.

The three persons were then handed over to Bihar Police and sent to Judicial custody. The police have started an investigation.

"Eight Chinese camera drones were recovered from the possession of three people during checking by SSB at Nepal border under Kundwa Chainpur Police Station. All three people were booked and sent to judicial custody. We are probing all angles," said Naveen Chandra Jha, Superintendent of Police, East Champaran.

The incident comes in the wake of an attack on the Indian Air Force station in Jammu last Sunday and a subsequent alert sounded for drones.

The Army had earlier objected to new rules allowing flying of drones under certain conditions. The rules allow 34 green zones the drones can be permitted after intimation about the time and location.

Its officials pressed for a buffer of 80 km for the drones to ensure they do not intrude into the spaces for the military, strategic or high-value targets. They wanted no permission around the airports since it may result in major accidents if the drones come in the flight path of any aircraft.

In a high-level meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, measures and strategies to counter "weaponised drones used for terror purposes against strategic and commercial assets" were discussed. The meeting was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, among others.

The deployment models will consist of primary and passive detection means, including radio frequency (RF) detectors, electro-optical and infrared cameras, radars, drone catching nets, GPS Spoofers, lasers, and soft and hard kill measures like RF Jammers.
