Congress urges BSY to convene assembly session

Mysuru, Jul 1 (UNI) Former Chief Minister and Leader of the opposition K Siddaramaiah on Thursday urged Chief Minister B S Yeddiyurappa to convene assembly session immediately to discuss many issues including covid-19 situation.
Speaking to newspersons here, Mr Siddaramaiah said that the ruling party is scared to face the opposition and that is why it does not want to have a session.
''The BJP government will definitely stand exposed during the session. If Yeddiyurappa believes in democracy, he should call for an assembly session, Mr Siddaramaiah claimed.
''There is total confusion as far as covid vaccination is concerned. Health Minister K Sudhakar must be lying. If there is enough stock, why would people stand in long queues?'' asked senior Congress leader.
He said that people are struggling to get vaccinated and the state government, it seems, is not able to meet the demand. Both state and central governments have failed in the distribution of vaccines, he claimed.
Commenting on the state government's decision to conduct the SSLC examinations this month, he said, ''given the pandemic situation. I don't see any point. II PUC examinations can be cancelled, why not SSLC? DR Sudhakar is also against it.''
With regard to confusion surrounding the youth Congress, he opined, it is a separate entity and ''I have nothing to do with it. I have given some suggestions and the selection has been done after the elections. Neither I nor D K Shivakumar has any role in the appointment, let there be no confusion.''
He said there is no discussion in the party on the future CM. There is nothing called newcomers in the Congress. After the election results, the party high command will decide and there is a long way to go for the assembly elections, Mr Siddaramaiah said.
On CM Yeddiyurappa's hesitation to visit Chamarajanagara 'due to superstition', the Congress leader said, ''as chief minister I visited chamarajanagara 12 times. Yeddiyuappa should go there to know the problems of the people.''
