A 16-year-old boy has become the fifth teenager to be murdered in London in less than a month after he was brutally stabbed to death on his doorstep earlier today.

He was found with multiple stab wounds at a flat on the Shrublands Estate in Croydon, south London, shortly before 1am.

The victim, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene just after 1.30am. There have been no arrests.

He is the 19th teenager to be murdered in London this year, two more than in the whole of 2020, and the fifth in the last four weeks.

Detectives are appealing for information.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: 'Police were called at 12.46am to reports of a disturbance at a residential address on Bracken Avenue in Shrublands, Croydon.

'Officers attended and found a 16-year-old inside suffering from stab injuries. They provided First Aid prior to the arrival of the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance.

'Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene at 1.34am. Next of kin have been informed. Formal identification has not taken place. A post-mortem will be held in due course.'

She added: 'No arrests have been made at this stage.

'Homicide detectives from the Specialist Crime Command have been informed. Enquiries continue.'
