Melbourne, Jul 1 (UNI) Cricket Australia (CA) on Thursday appointed Michael Di Venuto and Jeff Vaughan as assistant coaches for the men's national team.
The duo will join head coach Justin Langer's coaching staff ahead of a busy summer that will include an Ashes series, an historic first-ever Test match against Afghanistan and white ball matches against New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
Di Venuto, who's currently with the Australian squad in St Lucia, represented country in nine One-Day Internationals and played 336 First Class, 302 List A and 54 T20 matches during a distinguished 16-year career.
He has previously worked with the Australian men’s team as batting coach, before leading Surrey to its first English County title in 16 years in 2018.
The 47-year-old returned to Australia in 2020 and has worked with the Adelaide Strikers, Hobart Hurricanes and Tasmania.
"I'm excited to be rejoining the Australian team full time. I have spent some time around the group over the last month and really enjoyed being back with them," Di Venito said.
"Since my last stint, I've gained terrific experience being Head Coach of Surrey CCC before COVID hit and also spent time with the Adelaide Strikers, Hobart Hurricanes and Tasmania more recently,' he added.
Vaughan, 47, represented South Australia in 28 First Class and 24 List A matches. He subsequently worked with South Australia and the Adelaide Strikers before joining Tasmania in 2017 as the state’s senior assistant coach.
Justin Langer was thrilled to welcome the duo to the coaching group ahead of a big summer at home.
"This team is focussed on getting better as cricketers and people every single day and continuing to make Australians proud of us, on and off the field," Langer said.
"It doesn't get any better than an Ashes summer and, on behalf of the entire Australian Men's Team, I very much look forward to Michael and Jeff joining us on the journey.
They are outstanding coaches and leaders in their respective fields. They will add so much expertise and value to this group. We are very excited to have them both on board,' he added.
