The body of a 62-year-old woman was recovered from her residence in Nagpada on Thursday. The woman, identified as Rehana Siddiqi, used to live alone on the first floor of Diamond Cutter building, the JJ Marg police said. Her body was found in a partially decomposed state. The police suspect it’s a case of murder.

The incident came to light when Siddiqi’s maid came to work. When Siddiqi did not open the door, the maid alerted the neighbours, who then contacted her son and daughter. The police were also informed.

The police then broke open the door and found Siddiqui's body in a partially decomposed state. There were blood stains below her nose. The police also recovered a broken rope near her body. The cops suspect that she could have been strangled to death. The woman died 24 hours earlier, said a police official.

According to the police, Siddiqi was living alone after the death of her husband. Her son and daughter lived in the vicinity and used to visit her regularly. “We have registered a case of accidental death for now. However, the body has been sent for postmortem. Once the report comes we will be able to ascertain if its murder or not,” said Subhash Borade, senior inspector.
