The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has completed allotment of land for a 150-acre apparel city, being developed by the Noida Apparel Export Cluster (NAEC) in Sector 29, and 91 readymade garment manufacturers and exporters have already picked up plots at the site. The plots will be handed over within a month from now.

The garment cluster is expected to draw an investment of around ₹2,500 crore and employ five lakh.

NAEC president Lalit Thukral told a top English-language newspaper that the garment companies will start building factories as soon as they get possession of their plots. He hopes construction will be complete within a year and by 2023, the apparel hub should be up and running.

No date, however, has been scheduled yet for the inauguration of the apparel city.

Almost 70 per cent of the jobs are likely to go to women. NAEC is expected to drive exports worth ₹5,000 crore from the third year of the park’s establishment, Thukral said.

NAEC has also proposed to set up apparel training centres in over 2,000 villages of Uttar Pradesh to cultivate a trained workforce for the apparel park.

Noida has around 1,500 garment manufacturers and exporters, but the industry has been among the worst hit during the pandemic.
