CHANDIGARH: A total of 106 street
vendors dealing with food items have got registered with
Food Safety Standard Authority of India (
FSSAI). It is for the first time in the city that vendors have secured certificates from the national food safety regulators that sets high standards for hygiene.
The food wing of the health department of the UT administration will now impart regular training to the vendors and make them aware about the guidelines of the central government. If the vendors fail to comply with the standards, penalty will be imposed on them, which might go up to the cancellation of the FSSAI certificates.
“We have constituted 12 teams to impart training to the registered
street vendors in a regular manner. In the coming days, more and more street vendors will be given FSSAI certificates and registered with it by giving training and guidance. Moreover, their regular checking, inspection in terms of food safety, hygiene will continue. We have also tied up with PGI as a training partner to impart training to the vendors,” an official said.
Since the vendors had to go through the process and procedures, which include online submission of forms, digital payment and registration to get FSSAI certification, the food wing facilitated them from the beginning till the end and deputed employees to help them fill forms and complete paper work.
