Maharashtra on Thursday recorded 9,195 fresh cases, taking the number of active cases to 1,16,667. Besides, 252 COVID-19 deaths were reported in the day, taking the number of total fatalities to 1,22,197.
8,634 patients were discharged in the day, taking the tally to 58,28,535. The recovery rate in the state rose to 96.01%. The case fatality rate in the state is 2.01%.
Currently, 6,15,285 people are in home quarantine and 4,339 people are in institutional quarantine.
The Mumbai circle--which consists of MCGM, Thane, TMC, Navi Mumbai, KDMC, Ulhasnagar MC, Bhivandi Nijampur MC, Mira Bhayandar MC, Palghar, Vasai Virar MC, Raigad, Panvel MC--recorded 2004 new cases.
The Nashik circle--which consists of Nashik, Nashik MC, Malegaon MC, Ahmednagar, Ahmednagar MC, Dhule, Dhule MC, Jalgaon, Jalgaon MC, Nandurbar--reported 721 fresh COVID-19 cases.
The Pune circle--which includes Pune, PMC, PCMC, Solapur, Solapur MC, Satara--recorded 2610 new cases.
The Kolhapur circle reported 3266 new cases, Aurangabad circle 204, Latur circle 192, Akola circle 114, and Nagpur circle recorded 84 new COVID-19 cases.
Meanwhile, the Delta plus variant of coronavirus is presently not a "variant of concern" for the World Health Organisation (WHO), Chief Scientist Dr Soumya Swaminathan told NDTV on Thursday. She added the infection numbers due to the Delta plus variant are still low. However, it has been classified as a "variant of concern" by the Indian government last month. Incidentally, Delta plus cases have been detected in 12 states, including Maharashtra, in the country.
