JAMMU: After seizing tankers clandestinely transporting animals to valley,
Kathua Police on Thursday foiled a unique smuggling attempt and rescued 16 bovines at Lakhanpur on Punjab-Jammu and
Kashmir gateway in
Kathua district from a specially designed truck.
Police said, "A senior police officer said that a police team led by Inspector
Sumeet Sharma, Station House Officer, Police Station, Lakhanpur, under the supervision Dy SP DAR Kathua Sukhdev Singh, noticed a closed truck (HR58A/4027) and stopped it for checking."
"16 bovines i.e 8 Cows & 8
Oxen were found loaded in the said truck, police said, adding, "however the truck driver fled away from the spot while all the bovines were rescued and truck was seized."
A case under FIR No. 83/2021 has been registered at Police Station Lakhanpur and investigation started.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kathua,
Ramesh Kotwal has directed the officers to keep a check on illegal smuggling of bovines and take stern action against the culprits, he said.
