IndiPosted at: Jul 1 2021 5:43PM SC junks PIL seeking direction for separate funds for judiciary
New Delhi, Jul 1 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Thursday declined to entertain a PIL seeking directions for allocation of separate and adequate funds for smooth and impartial functioning of the Judicial system.
A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice NV Ramana while rejecting the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) said, "we can’t interfere and don’t want to give any such directions to the Centre."
In his plea, Petitioner Advocate Reepak Kansal, stated it is a matter of great concern that Centre and State Governments are not even spending 1 per cent of the budget allocated to the Judiciary, which is necessary for the development of judicial infrastructure and its functioning.
The plea also contended that there is a need for constituting a separate Secretariat with the Supreme Court and High Courts to manage the funds allocated to the judiciary.
Kansal was filing an application for restoration of the earlier PIL which was dismissed by the apex court bench headed by former Chief Justice SA Bobde in March for non-prosecution.
"Application restored. Writ petition dismissed, without expressing any opinion", the bench also comprising Justices AS Bopanna and Hrishikesh Roy asserted.
