Neena Gupta shares a throwback pic with Shankar Nag from Utsav

Actress Neena Gupta shared a still from the movie, Utsav, remembering the late actor Shankar Nag.

Bollywood actress Neena Gupta recently shared a still from her 1984 movie, Utsav. It was a picture with the late actor Shankar Nag. Girish Karnad directed the movie, Utsav, which also starred actors like Rekha, Amjad Khan, Shekhar Suman, Shashi Kapoor, and many others.

She posted the picture on her Instagram handle and wrote, “A still from a beautiful film Utsav with Shankar nag miss you so much Shankar bohat jaldi chod Gaye tum hamen,” (You left us too soon). Even her fans got emotional and filled the comment section with their love for the legend. One of them wrote, “For anyone who doesn’t know/remember Shankar Nag he was the director of Malgudi Days and also an actor par excellence. We have not had one like him since in the Kannada industry.

While another fan wrote, “Shankar Nag was way ahead of his time. A creative genius. His death was a huge loss for Indian cinema. 🙏🏾” One of the fans also expressed his sorrow for Shankar Nag, not being recognized by the wide section of society. He wrote, “Only a small minority recognize Shankar Nag in this post. So disappointing. There is a whole world of great movies outside of Bollywood. The regional cinema will always be >>> Bollywood.”

Shankar Nag was a prominent name in the Kannada industry and also essayed some noteworthy roles in Bollywood. The actor died in September 1990, at the age of 35. In the movie, Utsav, Shankar Nag played the role of a thief, while Neena Gupta played a courtesan. The actress wrote about her experience of this film, in her recently published autobiography, Sach Kahun Toh.

The movie was an adaptation of a Sanskrit ten-act-play, Mrchhkatika, written by Sudraka. It was set in the backdrop of an ancient city, Ujjaini, in the fifth century BC.
