Pelosi announces Liz Cheney will serve on committee to investigate Capitol insurrection

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday announced that Rep. Liz Cheney, a Wyoming Republican, will be among the members of a committee to investigate the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Cheney was one of just two House Republicans who voted Wednesday to create the select committee. The other was Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois. Rep. Bennie Thompson, a Mississippi Democrat, will serve as committee chairman. Early Thursday, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy was reported to have issued a threat to fellow House Republicans: Accept an invitation from Pelosi to join the select committee as one of her selections and be stripped of existing committee assignments.
