DPIIT Secretary Guruprasad Mohapatra, who boosted O2 supply, passes away

Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Guruprasad Mohapatra, passed away after battling COVID-19 and its complications on Saturday, June 19, 2021. He was admitted in the hospital for almost eight weeks.

He is well-known for his work during the COVID-19 crisis where he coordinated with states, other departments and the industry to scale up oxygen production to meet the rising demand. He and his team members scaled up the oxygen supplies and even had plans to limit access to the non-core sectors such as steel, oil and defence.

The President of India, The Prime Minister of India, other top ministers and government officials expressed their condolences to Mohapatra’s family.

Mohapatra was a Gujarat cadre IAS officer. He was the joint secretary in the commerce department before heading AAI. The 59-year-old earned goodwill among all his colleagues and was known as a down-to-earth civil officer.
