THANE: The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) on Thursday announced that there will be no Covid-19 vaccination in the twin cities on July 2, Friday.
This is the fourth consecutive day that the vaccination drive has been suspended in the city.
According to civic body officials, the immunisation of eligible beneficiaries in the region has been halted due to unavailability of sufficient vaccine doses from the state government.
However, the inoculation drive has been suspended only for KDMC and state-run vaccine centres. Private centres are permitted to administer jabs according to the number of doses they have.
Vaccination was suspended in Mumbai on Thursday and the BMC cited unavailability of vaccines as the reason.
Meanwhile, as the number of coronavirus cases has come down drastically in the cities, the Tata Amantra Covid care centre, which had served as one of the major centres for the people of Kalyan and Dombivli, has been officially shut.
KDMC chief Vijay Suryawanshi thanked the healthcare staff deployed at the centre for their services over a year and a half, and said that shutting down of the centre should be taken as a symbol of victory for the people of the region.
With the highest number of coronavirus cases so far, Kalyan-Dombivli is the worst-hit region in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
