Madonna has been slammed by fans for saying she 'did it first' in a comment about Lil Nas X's kiss with his male backing dancer at the BET Awards on Sunday.
The 22-year-old rapper was praised for the bold move during the music ceremony, but Madonna was keen to claim that she had done the same thing when kissing Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera at the MTV VMAs in 2003.
However, the 62-year-old star immediately caught backlash from fans who pointed out that the two performances were not comparable.
Lil Nas X has since responded to the controversy saying he and Madonna are 'friends' but that hasn't stopped the intense reaction on social media.

Lil Nas X, real name Montero Lamar Hill, had been bombarded with homophobic abuse following his performance - and many appeared to be angry that Madonna felt the need to claim ownership over the rapper's groundbreaking same-sex kiss.
Dressed as an Egyptian pharaoh while performing his single Montero (Call Me By Your Name), the rapper kissed one of his dancers in front of a televised audience promoting a strong reaction on social media.
The rapper attempted to diffuse the controversy on Wednesday, tweeting: 'me and madonna are friends. it's just a joke.'
Meanwhile, others criticized Madonna for references the performance with Britney, without acknowledging her recent struggles with one fan tweeting: 'Madonna could post herself kissing Britney but not free Britney.'
