Hitesh Chandra Awasthi, DGP Uttar Pradesh retires, IPS Mukul Roy, RP Singh front runners

Till the announcement of the new DGP, Awasthi has handed over his charge to ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar.

DGP of Uttar Pradesh Hitesh Chandra Awasthi has retired today on Wednesday.
Till the announcement of the new DGP, Awasthi has handed over his charge to ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar.

Praising DGP Hitesh him on retirement, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that "Director General of Police Shri HC AwasthiJii is retiring today after completing 36 years in office. During his long service as an IPS officer, he has served the country and the state as a good leader, sharp-tempered officer".

The new DGP can also be announced soon. 1987 batch IPS Mukul Goyal is expected to be the ideal replacement for the next DGP of the state. Mukul Goyal also met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow yesterday. Apart from him, RP Singh, Devendra Chauhan and Anand Kumar are also in the race.

UPSC has sent 3 names to the Chief Minister based on seniority.

In the order of seniority, the first number is 1986 batch IPS Nasir Kamal who is DG in NICSF at the centre. At number two is 1987 batch IPS officer Mukul Goyal who is posted as ADG in BSF. At number three is RP Singh of the 1987 batch, who is posted as DG EOW.
