New Delhi, June 29
The European Union has said individual member states will have the option to accept vaccinations that have been authorised by the World Health Organisation (WHO), such as Covishield.
It is one of the seven vaccines approved by the WHO.
The clarification came after the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention expressed concern over the inequitable treatment of people vaccinated with Covishield. The AstraZeneca vaccine made by SII has been distributed to several African nations as part of the global initiative.
“The aim of the EU digital Covid certificate is to facilitate free movement inside EU. It is not a precondition to travel,” they said. Covishield has been excluded from the EMA’s list of approved vaccines. — TNS
