CHANDIGARH: The much-hyped meeting between cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu and Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra did not take place on Tuesday.
Rahul Gandhi told media persons in Delhi that there was no meeting scheduled with Sidhu, a day after the disgruntled Punjab Congress MLA’s team had claimed that he would be meeting the Gandhis.
There was no response from Sidhu on the unexpected development. Earlier in the day, a video of Sidhu leaving his Patiala residence was posted on social media.
Sidhu meet had fuelled conjecturing
Sidhu did not respond to questions about the meeting from media persons standing outside his house.
On Monday, Sidhu's team had said he would meet with Rahul and Priyanka in Delhi. The Congress leadership in Punjab was abuzz with conjectures about what could have transpired resulting in the meeting turning out to be a faux pas for Sidhu. Sidhu has already met with the AICC-appointed three-member panel to give his point of view amid growing internal turmoil in the state unit.
