Separate Bihar DPRO recruitment exam to bring right talent
Candidates were shortlisted for the Public Relations department through a combined competitive examination by BPSC.

For the first time, Bihar will conduct a separate recruitment exam for the appointment of assistant director-cum district public relation officer (DPRO). Based on the performance in the written test followed by the interview, candidates will be shortlisted to fill the 31 vacant posts in the Information and Public Relations Department (PRD Bihar).
So far, the DPRO recruitment was done through the combined competitive examination conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). Highlighting the need for a separate recruitment exam, a senior official, on condition of anonymity of the PRD Bihar says that evolution of print, electronic and social media has created the need for experts in this field. “According to the 'Bihar Soochna Niyamawali 2012', candidates recruited as the DPRO must have background in journalism. This has made us to conduct a separate recruitment exam,” says the official.
Earlier, the candidates shortlisted through combined competitive examination for DPRO position were offered departmental training to familiarise with nuances of media and journalism.
Application process and exam date
The examination will be conducted by BPSC however the date of the examination is yet to be notified. Application process is currently open till July 5.
Amarendra Kumar, joint secretary-cum-examination controller, BPSC says that the Commission will decide on date once the situation normalises. “Schools and colleges are still closed, and the situation is under review. Moreover, we have several other examinations that have been rescheduled after second of the pandemic. We need to priorities them first,” says Kumar.
On cities hosting the exam centres, Kumar says that depending on the number of candidates Commission will decide test centres. “We are hoping to have around 10,000 candidates as these positions are open to journalism background students only. Candidates will be accommodated in and around Patna if number of applicants is less than or close to 10,000,” says Kumar.
