MADIKERI: A senior citizen, who stayed alone and was recovering from Covid-19 at his house in Kumburu village in Lakkeri Pasiari area in Madapura, Kodagu district, died due to a heart attack.
Since Pattamada Subaiah did not respond to calls over the past two days, his neighbours alerted the authorities on Tuesday. BJP MLA Appachu Ranjan wore a PPE kit and joined authorities in breaking down the door of the deceased’s house when there was no response from inside.
Subaiah, 67, a bachelor, tested positive a few days ago, and decided to isolate at home. He was initially sent to a Covid Care Centre in Kudige, but since he was unable to adjust to the atmosphere there, he returned home.
Milk and newspapers were regularly supplied to him. On Monday, when the man who delivered essentials did not receive any response from Subaiah despite calling him on his mobile phone, he informed neighbours.
The neighbours in turn, intimated Ranjan on Monday night. The MLA along with police personnel and officials went to Subaiah’s house on Tuesday morning. They found him seated on a sofa dead. The deceased’s sister Shaila and brother-in-law Bopaiah were present when the body was taken away. The body was cremated in the Hindu cremation ground at Madikeri.
