Due to lack of adequate vaccine stocks, the Mumbai Municipal corporation has suspended vaccination drive for July 1. The BMC in a tweet wrote, "Please note that all BMC and Government vaccination centers will remain closed tomorrow."
Meanwhie, Mumbai on Wednesday reported 692 new coronavirus infections, up 130 from a day ago, and 25 fresh fatalities, the highest single-day deaths since June 9, the city civic body said. With this, the tally of COVID-19 cases jumped to 7,22,218, while the death toll increased to 15,451, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) updated data.
The city logged more than double the fatalities as compared to Tuesday, when the city had witnessed 12 deaths and 562 cases. Earlier on June 9, Mumbai had reported 27 deaths in a span of 24 hours.
Mumbai witnessed 692 new COVID-19 cases after 38,078 tests, the highest in a 24-hour span in June, were conducted in the metropolis for detection of coronavirus. According to the civic body, so far 71,42,800 COVID-19 coronavirus tests have been conducted in the city.
The BMC said with 680 patients getting discharged from hospitals during the day, the cumulative number of recovered cases rose to 6,96,105.
Mumbai now has 8,351 active COVID-19 cases, it said.
The metropolis has a COVID-19 recovery rate of 96 per cent, while the average growth rate of cases between June 23 and June 29 stood at 0.9 per cent. The case doubling rate is 716 days, as per the data. Mumbai has 11 active containment zones in slums and 'chawls' (old row tenements) besides 80 sealed buildings (where certain numbers of residents of have tested coronavirus positive), the BMC said.
The financial capital of the county had reported the highest-ever 11,163 COVID-19 cases on April 4, while the most deaths in a day during the second wave - at 90 - were recorded on May 1.
