Dad stabs his wife to death and seriously wounds their 21-year-old daughter before taking his own life in a horrific country town murder-suicide

  • Woman aged in her 50s died after being stabbed in Inverell, in northern NSW
  • Police were called to an address around 2.20am on Wednesday morning 
  • Suspected male offender fled the scene, his body was reportedly located nearby
  • Later confirmed by police the man and woman who died were husband and wife
  • Couple's daughter, 21, was taken to Inverell Hospital in a stable condition

A mother has been stabbed to death and her daughter wounded in a frenzied attack with the husband and father later found dead in a suspected murder-suicide.  

Police were called to a house at Glen Innes Road near Moore St in Inverell, in northern NSW, about 2.20am on Wednesday.

Officers found a woman in her 50s suffering critical stab wounds, and despite the efforts of paramedics she died at the scene.

Another woman, aged 21, was seriously injured and was taken to Inverell Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The body of a man believed to be the attacker was found by police about 7.45am at a house on Kings Plain Road.

Police later confirmed he took his own life after stabbing the two women, since confirmed as his wife and daughter.

Police established a crime scene with investigations into what happened ongoing.
