Clashes broke out between supporters of LGBT community and police personnel in Istanbul and Ankara after the authorities banned Pride events in Turkey. Dozens of people, who were taking part in the Pride Parade, were detained by the police. Award-winning AFP photographer Bulent Kilic was also arrested by the police while he was covering the Pride event. However, he was released without charges after being taken to a police station for questioning. Bulent Kilic filed a "violent arrest" complaint against police officers, who pinned him to the ground with their legs against his neck and back. AFP chief executive Fabrice Fries registered his protest and urged Turkish officials to "swiftly investigate this incident and take the necessary measures so that the involved officers are held accountable".
