A Limpopo mom will remain behind bars after she allegedly beat her baby to death.
Mutavhatsindi Mushavhani, 42, was arrested soon after residents tried to rescue her 11-month-old baby boy last month.
The child was certified dead upon arrival at Ha-Lambani Clinic in Tswinganani Village.
It is alleged that on 30 May, she locked herself and the baby inside her house and started praying.
Limpopo National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said the mother then allegedly started hitting her son.
"Community members heard the baby's high-pitched screams and rushed to the house. After realising that the door was locked, they broke it down and rescued the badly injured baby from the mother.
"The baby was rushed to a local clinic where he was certified dead on arrival."
Mushavhani made her second appearance in the Tshaulu Periodical Court on Tuesday, facing a charge of murder.
She is expected back in court on 3 August.
