A homeopathic doctor from Durban is expected to appear in court after she was arrested for allegedly issuing professional driving permits (PDP).
Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) spokesperson Priscilla Sekhonyana said they received complaints that the doctor in Rossburgh was fraudulently issuing PDPs to motorists.
After an eight-month-long investigation involving the HPCSA, its partners in the healthcare sector and law enforcement officers, the doctor was arrested on Monday.

"After consultation with the police and Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), surveillance was conducted to determine the veracity of the complaint. During the operation, the doctor was identified as the person who oversaw the practice and other persons she employed," Sekhonyana said.
"It was established that the doctor is registered with the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA) in the profession of homeopathy, which is a diagnostic profession registered under the AHPCSA," Sekhonyana added.
It was found that her profession did not permit the issuing of PDPs.
