Dakshina Kannada has seen a decline in the number of daily Covid-19 cases, as well as the positivity rate. On Wednesday, the district recorded 339 Covid-19 cases with a positivity rate of 3.89%.
MANGALURU: Dakshina Kannada has seen a decline in the number of daily Covid-19 cases, as well as the positivity rate. On Wednesday, the district recorded 339 Covid-19 cases with a positivity rate of 3.89%.
Meanwhile, in the Mangaluru City Corporation limits, 64 fresh Covid-19 cases were reported. The district has a total of 4,662 active cases. However, with 15 deaths, the highest in the state, the total death toll touched 1,195.
Buses to operate from Thursday
Private city and service buses are expected to resume operations on Thursday. Private buses will run with a 20% increase in fares, as capacity has been capped at 50%, said Dakshina Kannada Bus Owners Association president Dilraj Alva.
Deputy commissioner K V Rajendra said when the fares were increased last time, the price of diesel was Rs 56 per litre. “Bus owners have been requesting to hike the fares permanently, but we have agreed to a 20% hike in fares till the lockdown restrictions are in place, which is till the carrying capacity is 50%, or till the Regional Transport Authority meeting is convened,” he said.
Udupi district recorded 149 Covid-19 cases on Wednesday. However, no fatalities were reported in the district. Of the 149 cases reported, 134 people are in home isolation. The district has 940 active Covid-19 cases, and three active mucormycosis cases.
Hookah bar raided
The Mangaluru city police raided a hookah bar in Valencia on Wednesday evening. The Mangaluru South police station officials said that a case is being booked against the owner under the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Act for violation of the lockdown guidelines. The police are also examining if drug consumption was taking place at the hookah bar
