The tourism industry of West Bengal has emphasized the urgency to speed up vaccination process at various tourist destinations in order to recommence its operations in the best way.
Recently, the members of the tourism and hospitality industry had participated in a meeting with all the state government officials, including tourism secretary, Nandini Chakraborty, MSME secretary, Rajesh Pandey and WBIDC chairman Rajiva Sinha.
Mr. Debjit Dutta, the chairman of the West Bengal chapter of Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) and Association of Domestic Tour Operators, explained that vaccination at different tourist destinations will encourage more and more tourists to come to West Bengal. The tourism and hospitality industry of West Bengal jointly employs more than 2 lakh people in the state. The sector accounts for almost 8% of the employment in the state.
Also, Mr. Dutta appreciated to the state government for the mass drive in vaccination process. “This will make West Bengal a safe destination,” he added.
Vaccination in the lower level is yet to be done completely, he said, because of the issue related to transportation in remote section. Also, Dutta felt the government can give confidence to fully vaccinated people to visit the state.
