GHAZIABAD: Mucormycosis (
black fungus) cases continue to be reported in
Ghaziabad. The number rose to 97 with detection of one more case on Monday.
According to health officials, with the
Covid cases on a decline, there is also a slowdown in black fungus cases. Additional chief medical officer Dr Sunil Tyagi said a black fungus patient was admitted to a private clinic in Ghaziabad after about a gap of two weeks. The patient is a 42-year-old man and admitted to the Harsh ENT Clinic following a Covid infection.
In the last two months, 10 black fungus patients of the total (97) have died.
At present, there are 24 active patients of black fungus in the district, out of which seven are undergoing treatment in hospitals. Of these, three patients are admitted at the Max Hospital, two each are in Harsh ENT and Yashoda Hospital. Apart from this, 17 patients are being treated through OPDs. Meanwhile, 63 patients have recovered, added Dr Tyagi.
Dr Tyagi informed about 24 patients have been procuring amphotericin B injections from the CMO office daily. “A cheaper injection is also being supplied now. As many as 75 injections were received from the government on Sunday and 50 on Monday,” he added. Senior ENT surgeon Dr BP Tyagi, who has treated about 60 black fungus patients at Harsh ENT, said he was now getting patients whose jaws are getting affected.
