Social Welfare Department Begins Special COVID -19 Vaccination Drive

Chandigarh, 29th June 2021: A “Special COVID-19 Vaccination Drive” has been organized by the Department of Social Welfare Women & Child Development, Chandigarh Administration in convergence with the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Chandigarh for Persons with Disabilities & their caregivers, and Senior Citizens of U.T. Chandigarh. The drive aims to provide inclusive, seamless, and accessible delivery of COVID-19 vaccination to maximum numbers of disabled persons, senior citizens, and their caregivers as they are most vulnerable and have co-morbidities that may put them at higher risk of being affected by COVID. The Special Vaccination Drive is being carried out at 24 different locations across U.T. Chandigarh including periphery areas. The inclusive drive started on 29th June ‘2021 wherein 242 residents have been covered on the first day.

In order to cover the maximumly disabled and senior citizen population of Chandigarh, Secretary Social Welfare, Chandigarh has decided to provide a free pick-up and drop facility from their doorstep to the nearest vaccination center. In order to avail of this facility a toll-free number 181-3, 9915023456 has been provided. The Director Social Welfare has deputed Supervisors, Anganwari Workers, Anganwari Helpers, and NSS Volunteers to visit the residence of persons with disabilities and to make arrangements in collaboration with the officials of Helpline and allied units of the department in order to encourage them and to remove the myths associated with the vaccination. It is through there dedicated efforts 242 PwDs & Senior Citizen have been vaccinated at Dhanas, Daddu Majra Colony, Sarangpur, Maloya, Palsora on the first day of the vaccination drive.

The drive is being carried out at various centers such as GMCH-32, GMSH-16, Civil Hospitals Sector-22, Sector-45, Manimajra, and different Health & Wellness Centres of U.T. Chandigarh.
