New Delhi: Olympics-bound Simranjit Kaur, Commonwealth Games gold medallist Gaurav Solanki and World Championships silver winner Sonia Chahal have been nominated for the Arjuna Award by the Boxing Federation of India. Simranjit (60kg) is a 2018 World Championships bronze winner and is among the four women boxers who have qualified for the Tokyo Olympics. The federation also nominated women’s assistant coach Sandhya Gurung and national youth head coach Bhaskar Bhatt for the Dronacahrya Award.

Deepika reclaims world No. 1 ranking after triple gold

Paris: Star Indian archer Deepika Kumari today regained the No. 1 position in global rankings following her hat-trick of gold medals at the World Cup Stage 3 here. The 27-year-old from Ranchi had achieved the top spot for the first time in 2012.

BWF cancels India Open, shifts Tour Finals from China

New Delhi: The India Open Super 500 and Hyderabad Open Super 100 tournaments were today cancelled by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), which announced a revamped international calender. However, Syed Modi India International Super 300 tournament, scheduled to be held in Lucknow from October 12 to 17, remained on course as of now. BWF also said that Finland will host the Sudirman Cup Finals in September-October while the season-ending World Tour Finals will be staged in Indonesia. China was earlier scheduled to host both the events.

Olympics javelin champ Rohler out of Tokyo

Darmstadt (Germany): Germany’s Thomas Rohler ruled himself out of defending his Olympics javelin title because of a back injury. Rohler was injured in training. Agencies
