Maruti Suzuki, Toyota Scrappage Centre to Start Operations

Maruti Suzuki Toyotsu India Pvt Ltd (MSTI) - the vehicle dismantling and recycling joint venture of Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Tsusho Group - may soon start operations at Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The centre will initially start with dismantling Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL’s) old test vehicles. The joint venture was announced in 2019 and the operations were slated to start in the last financial year. According to an official, the venture is a bit behind schedule because of Covid.

All the machineries are ready for dismantling vehicle parts like the engine, aluminium, plastics, copper and other raw materials. The official added that, all the scrapped materials will be sold to scrap dealers and anybody who wants to scrap his old vehicle can bring it to the unit, and in return he will be provided with a certificate with details to enable them get incentives on buying new cars, according to the government norms.

MSIL’s used car unit True Value will also bring old vehicles for scrappage from its outlets.

MSTI is a JV between MSIL and Toyota Tsusho Group (Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Toyota Tsusho India Private Limited) with each owning 50 per cent equity. MSTI is responsible for procuring and dismantling End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs). The process will include complete solid and liquid waste management as per the Indian laws and globally approved quality and environment standards.
