Low labour cost, availability of raw materials and quality products are the major drivers in making Bangladesh one of the biggest knitwear exporting countries in the world, according to Robin Razon Sakhawat, director of Robin Knitwear Ltd. The knitwear sector contributes $16 billion annually to the total exports of the country.Bangladesh government’s support for establishment of factories, cash incentives and privilege for exports have helped units like Robin Knitwear, Sakhawat told Fibre2Fashion in an interview.
In the future, he plans to “create more opportunity for employment by increasing capacity with reduced water consumption and pollution. This will increase production and earn more foreign currency.”
