Wimbledon 2021: Andy Murray overcomes Basilashvili and sealed a battle victory on his return to singles

Andy Murray beat Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-4, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 and sealed a battle victory on his return to singles at the Wimbledon tournament from 0-5 to 7-5 and two match points saved.

Two times champion Andy Murray will be facing any one of the Germany’s Oscar Otte or France’s Arthur Rinderknech to secure a place in the last 32.

Murray has been very unlucky with his health and fought a prolonged battle with hip and groin injuries in recent years. It’s been four years to his previous appearance at Wimbledon where he lost to Sam Querrey in five sets in the quarter-finals and its his first singles win at the tournament since 2017.

“It has been extremely tough, even in the last few months. It was not the most serious of injuries but it was frustrating not to be able to get on the court.

I have had so little momentum over the last few years but I kept going on to the gym. I am trying to get back to do it again,” said Murray.

The champion of 2013 and 2016, has a long-standing hip problem that needed surgery, the reason impelled him a saddening edge of retirement.

Back-to-back Olympic gold medalist Murray told that he plans to keep playing.

“I keep being asked if it will be my last Wimbledon. I can still play at the highest level….I keep going,” told Andy Murray.
