Covid-19: Spike in number of infected children in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh district has witnessed a spike in the number of children infected with Covid-19 during the second wave of the Covid pandemic.
As per data, 2,380 children in the 0-18 age group have tested positive for Covid-19 in Dibrugarh district since April 1. This accounts for 12.08% of the total 19,695 total cases detected during the period. During the first wave last year, around 1,550 children were infected in the district.
The number of fatalities among covid positive children have also risen in the second wave with five deaths being recorded at the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in the month of June alone.
Three among the five children who died had comorbidities or multiple health conditions.
The first covid death of children recorded at the AMCH this month was of a 37-day-old child on June 2 followed by the death of a 34-day-old infant on June 9. On June 17, a 8-year-old kid died.
Similarly, another 5-month old child passed away on June 19 and on June 26, a 11-month kid succumbed to the virus.
