Assam recorded 34,606 Covid-19 cases among children under 18, 12 % of total cases

A total of 5,755 cases are children below five years of age, while 28,851 were in the age group of 6 to 18 years.

Around 12 percent of total Covid-19 cases reported in the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in Assam are children under 18.

The Health Department said that 34,606 children under the age of 18 were infected with the virus in the last three months.

Officials of the National Health Mission Assam chapter said that between April 1 and June 26, 34 corona positive children died. A total of 2,80,504 people tested COVID-positive in this period in the state. A total of 5,755 cases are children below five years of age, while 28,851 were in the age group of 6 to 18 years.

Kamrup (Metropolitan) reported the highest 5,346 cases Surprisingly, 10.04 percent of cases have been found in Kamrup (Metropolitan) alone as compared to 53,251 cases in the district, Dibrugarh reported 2,430 cases, Nagaon reported 2,288 cases under the age of 18, while 2,023 children were found infected Kamrup rural. At the same time, 1,839 cases were found in Sonitpur.

Superintendent of the Guwahati Medical College Abhijeet Sharma said that
135 children under the age of 14 have been found infected at GMCH, out of which nine have died so far.

In the first wave, from March last year to April this year, GMCH had 228 cases of COVID positive children and 12 deaths. The doctor said that at present nine children are undergoing treatment at GMCH.
