'Friendly race': One killed, one injured after bikes collided on Yamuna Expressway

GREATER NOIDA: A 28-year-old youth died, and his 30-year-old friend was injured after their superbikes collided on the Yamuna Expressway in Knowledge Park area of Greater Noida on Sunday morning. Initial investigation revealed that the two were racing, which led to the accident.
The deceased was identified as Rahul Teotia (28), a resident of Mehrauli in Delhi and his friend, Yash Kumar (30), a resident of Rohini in Delhi, sustained injuries.
Sanjay Kumar Singh, SHO of Knowledge Park police station, said that the accident took place on the Agra-Noida side of the expressway around 9.30am on Sunday. “The rear tyre of Teotia’s bike burst and he lost balance around 2 km from Zero Point. Kumar was coming from behind and his bike hit the other. Eyewitnesses told us that the speed of both the bikes was over 100 km/hr,” he said, adding that passersby took them to a nearby hospital.
The SHO added that the family members of Teotia told police that he and his friend left home early on Sunday to enjoy a ride on their superbikes.
The SHO said that the police received information through Twitter.
Commuters and residents had posted video of the incident on Twitter tagging Noida police. “We reached the spot immediately and another police team was sent to the hospital. We also informed their families. Teotia had severe head injuries and died while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Kumar is still in ICU,” he said.
Police said that no complaint has been filed in the case but the body has been sent for autopsy, the reports of which are awaited.
Police are also checking CCTV footage of nearby areas to ascertain if more bikers were involved in the race.
