New Delhi, Jun 28 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Monday refused to extend the time limit of trial in a plea against former Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal in the alleged sexual assault case.
The apex court bench comprising justices Ashok Bhushan, Vineet Saran and M R Shah pointed out Tejpal's acquittal in the case by a fast track court in Mapusa, Goa on May 21.
"The trial is concluded, Now, no order is required (on extension)," the bench asserted.
Earlier this week, the Bombay High Court at Goa had adjourned an appeal against the acquittal of Tejpal in the rape case by the fast track court in Mapusa and the matter has been listed for the next hearing on July 29.
Tejpal, who then ran Tehelka, was accused of rape by a junior woman colleague in 2013.
As per the complaint, she was sexually assaulted in a lift of a five-star hotel in Goa in November 2013 when they were attending an event.
He was arrested on November 30 in the same year but later released on bail in May 2014. He has denied the allegations.
The Goa government had also earlier approached the top court seeking an extension of time to complete the trial.
