Pune
Tata Motors and
Tata Power have jointly inaugurated a solar carport at the Tata Motor car plant
located in Pune. It is India’s largest
grid-synchronised and behind-the-meter car plant.
The solar
carport is 6.2 MWp and can generate up to 8.6 million kWh of electricity per
year. It can also reduce 7,000 tons of carbon emissions per annum and 0.16
million tons over its total life cycle. This car plant will not only generate
green power but will also offer a covered parking facility for the finished
cars in the plant.
Tata Motors had
entered into a Power Purchase Agreement with Tata Power on August 31, 2020.
Even in the pandemic situation, the companies have managed to develop a massive
carport within 9.5 months.
According to Mr.
Shailesh Chandra, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, the
company is looking for ways to reduce the negative impact on the environment.
The company understands the need to conserve energy and wishes to achieve 100%
renewable energy sources for its operation. The setup of this huge solar
carport at Pune is a step towards saving the environment.
As per Praveer
Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power, as a part of the Tata initiative, the company
feels proud in launching this solar carport. This partnership will lower the
carbon footprint and provide green energy solutions.
The company is
decided to use 100% renewable power and has taken several steps in the same
direction. Tata Motors has already generated 88.71 million
kWh of renewable electricity which accounts for 21% of the total power
consumption of the company.
