As the prices of
petrol and diesel are rising in India, the country is going to increase the
production of ethanol as an alternative fuel, said Nitin Gadkari, Union
Minister. He also said that automobile markers in Canada, Brazil, and the US
are producing flex-fuel engines. This initiative has helped customers to use
100% petrol or bio-ethanol.
In metro cities
like Mumbai and Hyderabad, the prices of petrol have reached Rs 100 per litre.
Gadkari also pointed out that the price of ethanol will be around Rs 60-62 per litre. The
road transport and highway minister said that the 750 ml of petrol is the same
as 1 litre of ethanol, so people can save Rs 20 per litre. He also added that
ethanol is a cost-effective and environmental-friendly option. The Prime
Minister has shown his interest in achieving ethanol blending with petrol by
2025 so that pollution can be reduced and import dependency can also be bought
down.
Gadkari also
said that MSP for crops is higher than international price due to which the
government has allowed the production of ethanol from corn, sugarcane, and food
grains.
